In case of the cheaper stores, there are 1 euro (and more) store but you have to look good and they often seem to looka bit ... how do you say that... creepy...
Than there are 2handstores like the Kringloopwinkels, but they aren't so cheap and yet again you have to look around a bit.
We don't have anything like Wallmart or so... too bad :s
And most of the craftrelated stores are quit expensive yes.

For the Belgium post office / international costs
if you go to www.depost.be you'll find the information there, if you don't understand Dutch or Frencj enough, just go to the postoffice, I think they know English (at least the younger ones do) and just ask. The international stamps, just take your package with you to the post office, say I want to sent it too ... and they weigh the package and place the right stamp Wink
International costs:
under 350 g:  6 to Europe, 9 to the others (this can be less, depends on how much your package weighs)
under 1 kg: 9 to Europe,  15 to others
under 2 kg: 15 to Belgium or The Netherlands, 18 to Europe, 30 to the others ...

hope you all know a little bit more Smiley

Oh thank you Riechan, I was wondering how much packages were to send (that's much cheaper tha i expected too!) I've been here a year and still haven't had reason to send packages (luckily we've had lots of visitors and visits back to the UK so I get to miss out the postman altogether Smiley ) Still I may start swapping now that I know it's not too expensive to send stuff.
Still struggling on finding decent priced material though...thank god for ikea material and sheets is all i can say Sad

if you don't have much money (or you just don't want to buy stuff all the time while a lot gets thrown away) dumpsters (containers) of stores like Hema and Blokker are a good place to find crafty stuff. I've found tule-fabric, beads, frames (of which the glass was NOT broken), canvasses (to paint on), nylon thread, crafty kids scissors, paper, and lots of other things. not too mention a hammock, a big beautiful mirror (that my dumpster friend now has), several sunshades/porasols, etc.

btw I need to rephrase about the 2nd hand stores.
Last Thursday I went to a "Kringloopwinkel"
there were a lot of things for just 0,25 or 0,50 cents.
Lot's of clothing too, didn't find much jewellry (the thing I was looking for) but I did find some cute things
like A Winnie the pooh glas (was in need for a bigger glas), a tin box asian style, a little bag of buttons, some cute earrings,
and some things I can't think of right away.
I'd love to go back again.

Oh and btw
The postoffice costs are always less ...
so when you want to send a package that weighs 600 gr to Australia, it's only going to cost 14 'cause the price given is for when you send 1 kg.
(do you get me? I know I am a bit confusing)
