Hey craftsters.
I was wondering if there were any Belgians or people who live in/around Brussels, or know the city.
I'm going to visit one of my French friends so she can do the translating, but she probably doesn't know anywhere that's craftster related, and she's not been living there long.
Tips for good places to go would be much appreciated. The tourist office doesn't seem to be that helpful and I haven't hit my local bookstore for guidebooks yet, but I'd doubt they'd have much 'insider' knowledge.
Merci.

Hi!

I'm from Belgium... I don't know Brussels that well, but a fun place to go is aux petits riens in the Americastraat. It's a 3-storey thrift store with a little retro clothingstore (cheaper than the others in town!)! And every morning there's a fleamarket on the Vossenplein! But don't stick to Brussels, Belgium is small so you should check out Antwerp too! I know some nice places there! Let me know if you decide to go!  Have fun!!

Hi, I live near Brussels, I don't know if there's an AVA in Brussels but if there is one you should check it out!

I am wondering if anyone who missed this post the first time around had anything to add? I am due to go out again to Brussels for new year (30th Dec until the 2nd Jan) and would really appreciate it if anyone know of any crafty stores/trimming suppliers/yarn stores, etc.
My french/belgian friend knows very little about shops in brussels (except where the main stores like H&M and Espirit are) and the last time I came around we went to all the museums in a guide book so I think I've exhausted all touristy things to do now.

Hi!

You must've returned from Belgium long ago, but in case this comes up on somebody's search, I posted a (most probably incomplete) list of Brussels craft and yarn shops here:

I've just moved to Brussels from the UK, so great to see that there are a couple of  likeminded craftsters in the area. This post needs more info though (although i realise its probably a bit late for the original poster!) If there are any English speaking (my french and dutch are terrible sorry!) craftsters hiding in the Brussels area speak up! Smiley

I know that there are a lot of crafty shops in Ghent! If you come to Belgium you should visit 'De gouden plum',' De banier', 'Pipoos',... in Ghent

I haven't started swapping yet (not enough posts and not quite brave enough to work out the Belgium post office especially with international mail!) But if anyone can point me in the right direction (ie. is it possible to survive the post office without speaking much french/dutch and where on earth do you get international stamps from!) then i'd be up for starting swapping soon.

Do Eurostores exist in Brussels (like dollar stores/ poundland) where i could get very cheap bits and pieces for crafting i.e.  candles/ frames/ cheap toys/ kids art supplies/ kitchen bits and pieces etc... I just cant seem to find cheap shops here, does anyone know of a specific part of town or market hall or something where these things exist? I've seen Blokker and Hema which seem to be good but i'm more looking for the dollar bin type stuff.
And is all material expensive here? I've only been to one material shop so far on chausse d'ixelles and jeez it was expensive! Do markets sell material?
