Hi!  This is my first post.  I just wanted to share some applique's I've been doing.  I think they came out well.  The tree was inspired by a friends talk of a tattoo and all the fall catalogues that have started arriving (with my favorite fetish, sweaters)!

The skirt is a vintage Simplicity A-line pattern from the seventies.  For the applique, I iron double sided fusible on the cut out shapes.  Then, I iron that fabric to the skirt and then go over it with my smallest zigzag stitch twice.  It doesn't take too long.  I think the tree took me an hour and a half.  The circles by the tulips are shell buttons and the stems are ric rac.

I made them myself. I took left over fabric and cut them into shapes.  Then I ironed on double sided fusible web to the back of the cut out shapes.  Then ironed THAT to the skirt.  I finished with a small, tight zig zag stitch around all the edges to add a finished look and to make sure the shapes stay on after a few washings and to keep the edges from unraveling.

I always have respect for people who have that patience to do appliques. Too much zig zag stitching for me.
