Those are super cute, I too have a Mary Jane obsession, I have a pair of flower print Doc Martin boots in my closet (that are 10 years old and I just cant seem to part with them).

Thanks for the compliments!

IchBeisse:  Sorry to disappoint, but I didn't use a sewing machine for the bias tape.  It's glued on (quite strongly) to the cut edge with tacky glue, which is wonderfully versatile stuff.

tiegh:  They do slip a little when I walk, but I blame that more on the fact that the doc apparently  doesn't believe in half-sizes so these were a bit big to begin with.  Though they are a bit heavy because of the chunky heel.

ashenteardrop:  I used the steak knife like a saw to cut out the tongue and make the rounded bit in front, and then I cut from behind the first eyelet down around the sides.  I glued the bias tape on to cover the ugly cut edge and used the elastic and buttons for closure.  The bows are made from some polka-dotted ribbon that I love (found at Jo-Ann's), and I painted over the brown soles and yellow stitching with black acrylic to lessen the doc marten look.

Jennickell:  I think those flower print docs would work wonderfully for a reconstruction of some sort!  When I originally thought of this project, I wanted to use a pair of bizarre black and white face-printed docs that I picked up around the same time as this pair.  But I guess I must have gotten rid of them a while back.  They were really ugly and would have been so much better as maryjanes.

Any steak knife injuries you want to tell us about?   Wink  My two simultaneous thoughts were, "Wow, she's good," and "I would have permanent scars if I tried that!"
