Hi all!
My latest finished project is this outfit for my brother.  He and his girlfriend are going to an awards night for her theatre troupe, and he wanted something that would match her dress.  Her dress is black with a pink bow, so at first, he wanted black and pink plaid fabric.  We could not find that anywhere!  So, I used plain pink broadcloth and put black netting over it.  For the vest I used McCall's 2524.  The pants are thrift store pants.  The matching stripe I made by using the serger to do a rolled hem on both sides of a long strip.  I sewed that down by hand centered on the side seam.  It covered the pocket a little, so I just left one side unsewn over the pocket.

I also thought I should mention:  The vest isn't really too short, he just wears his pants way too low.  I told his date to make sure he's wearing a belt, and they're high enough that night.  Grin

Thanks for the compliments!

I just got finished sewing narrower stripes around the sleeves of the jacket at the cuff line, so I'm calling this project completely done.  Even though I left the buttons of the vest for my mom to sew on (they're just pinned in the picture).  I was already at their house and it was all finished except for that, so I asked her if I could leave them for her to sew on so I wouldn't have to ship it.  Plus, I hate handsewing and there was already a buttload of that to finsh the lining of the vest, lol.

I figured everyone would like my brother a ton, all the girls always think he's hot.  The hat, though, was pure necessity and not a fashion statement.  He hadn't washed his hair yet when I made him put it all on so I could take pictures before we left.  And now he'll be super mad if he ever reads this and knows I told you guys that.   Wink

BTW, I do recommend that vest pattern.  It turns out well, and the instructions, though there's a lot of them, are clear.  The sizing runs true for anyone with a bit of a belly (I used the same pattern for my husband's vest he wore at our wedding), but with my brother, because he's so thin and likes his clothes to be tighter, I made a size smaller than the chest measurement reccomended.  We cut out a muslin to test the sizing first, which is good, because he always says the things I make don't fit.  Which is NOT true.  Little brothers...  Roll Eyes  Anyway, good pattern, cut the fronts and backs out of waste fabric and sew the darts and back seam and sides and shoulders to test fit.  Don't forget that the seam allowances at all the edges won't be there when you actually sew it.  Mark the center line on the muslin and pin the fronts together there to get a true idea of the fit.

Anyway, thanks again!  I'll be sure to tell my brother he's got a future as a craftster model.
