We recently inherited a blue "Lack" table from Ikea that was just too boring and blue. I kind of like the blue, so I didn't want to totally paint over it, but I needed something.

So this weekend, I grabbed some paint and knocked out a stipple design that kind of looks mosaic-ish. The design was something my husband drew for me 10 years ago, as a doodle of love, so I decided to incorporate it into the table.

I used Liquitex acrylic paint and the flat stump of a paintbrush handle (a pencil eraser or dowel or even just a toothpick would also work). I made a paper template for the design and taped it to the table with painter's tape. Then, I went around the edges of the paper, laying out the basic outline with dots as I worked around. Once the outlines were done, I filled in the middle. I wanted sort of a swirl design, but without too much free space between the dots, which was a challenge. I ended up making lots of swirls and twists and then filling in the free spaces later.

After the heart and bat wings were done, I covered the rest of the table in black dots, again in a swirl pattern.

This table is about 2' x 2' and the dots are about 1/2 cm or smaller. The total project time was about 7 hours. I did it in 2 sessions over the weekend, while watching movies, so it actually went really fast.

Thank you! I need to take a picture in natural light, so the blue shows up. It's rainy and gloomy here, so I just used the lamp, which is inadequate

God, that must have taken a lot of patience. And how many times did you park the side of your hand in wet paint dots?? I love the subtle swirls in the heart. Very well done! Cheesy
