This is undoubtedly the most complicated sewing project I've ever undertaken in my life... but I finished it!  I actually made this for a Christmas present... just never posted it.

When I saw the movie Moon Child, I noticed an incredibly awesome jacket worn by one of the main characters (Gackt is the actor, he's actually a Japanese singer).  Here's a picture of the actual jacket:

I watched the movie with a few of my friends as well as my boyfriend, who had seen the movie before and LOVES the jacket.  As I was thinking of Christmas presents for various people, I got the insane idea to make the jacket.  I don't know what I was smoking, but somehow I thought I could do it.

So, with the help of laine hammy's mother, who was a tailor, I drew up a basic design, found a base pattern (which was actually for some fleece hoodie, but somehow we altered it), and started the jacket.  But there was one problem-- my sewing machine would not sew the vinyl.

I had to borrow a friend's machine, which worked, but in the final stages of sewing it started to cop out on me.  Oh well, as long as it finished.  This project was incredibly difficult, as I had never sewn with vinyl before or made anything like this, not to mention keeping it a secret was HARD!

Oh, and random advice for anyone who wants to sew with vinyl: use painter's tape (the blue kind) to hold things in place.  It's fun to rip off the vinyl, the first few times... by the end I was picking out little blue bits from under the stitches with tweezers.  If you have trouble feeding the vinyl through the machine, put a piece of tissue paper on top.  It'll sew much smoother, and it's even easier/more fun to rip out than the tape!

So anyway, here it is, on the ground first, then on me, then on him:

(the shirt he's wearing was made by laine hammy, and she made him model it too)

Well, he loved it, and I'm very very proud of it (though I can point out every single mistake... eek!).  It was SO hard to make, but I loved it anyway.  One thing, though-- I am SICK of blue tape!
