Sneaker sacrilege

I had an old pair of sneakers and when I saw the challenge I decided to use them in this project and make my first entry... I kind of tried to make them cute and opposite of what they used to be


Here's what they used to look like:


And this is what they look like now (more or less as the camera apparently had a bad day today).

Was it difficult to embroider on the canvas? It looks like it would be hard.

At first it was kind of hard but I got the hang of pretty soon (and bought a better needle). It still took a while to get all of those beads sewn on the canvas...

omg! my best friend's b-day is coming up, and i think im going to embroider a pair of chucks for him....he just gave me a hugggee pack of embroidery floss, too, so all i need is some shoes.  geeez, this is awesome; he is so hard to get gifts for! thanks sooo much for the idea!!!!

hey, i just got some (more) converse, in violet (!!!) and i'm seriously considering doing this to them. SO i was wondering if you could tell me a few things.... like:
What type of needle did you use? was it very sharp, or was there anything special about it?
How long did it take you?
(If you messed up) Did it make much of a mark, or was the hole big? Did it disappear really easily, or did it sort of stay there for a while?
and... well, how good at embroidery are you? have you been doing it for ages, or is this project ok for 'i'm-ok-but-not-that-totally-faboulous' people (aka, me.)
i think thats all.
 I would really love to do this, but i'm not sure because i'm usually not to keen on embroidery and so i often dont to a very nice job.

Sorry, it took me a while to respond...

So, I would highly recommend using a sharp needle (nothing special needed, though), it will go through nicely.

It took me about three hours to finish one shoe, while watching TV

It kind of depends on the needle, the hole, but it doesn't leave that big of a hole if you just use a normal sized needle.

I'm not that great an embroiderer my self... I just winged it, it shouldn't be too hard. If you do something wrong, work it into the embroidery if it's not completely awful. After all, it's a shoe, it won't be looked at so carefully
