I bought a Leisure Arts book yesterday called 'teach yourself to embroider' and this is the first result.

It was definitely a learning experience-I mastered the 'lazy daisy' and stem stitch, but definitely goofed up on the bullion knot and whipped spider web. The good news is that after thinking about it last night, I'm pretty sure I could do all of them now. I think I'm on my way to another crafty obsession!

Speaking of embroidery, does anyone have the book 'The New Crewel'? I'd like to see some finished projects from it. It looks so cute.

Very pretty work!  Keep with it, you've got talent.  Smiley

That looks great, I'm so afraid to try different stitches, I'm stuck on split stitch and doing just outlines right now.  Smiley  Those look really good though, I might have to try some of those stitches.

Thanks so much for saying I have talent fidget! Smiley Knitting, and now embroidery, are something in my life where I feel I can do something so fun and relaxing and even impress people with it. It's great!

Chelsea--you should totally try some different stitches. The Leisure arts book I mentioned in the first book is a pretty good way to learn. Or check out another inspirational embroidery book from the library that has good explanations on stitches. As long as you have good pictures and explanations, some of the impressive looking stitches are really not that difficult.

Chelsea, I second what tejer said: new stitches aren't difficult and they open up a whole new level of expression and design.  There are lots of websites with stitch diagrams that are easy to follow.  This one is by a gal named Johanna and the stitches are well diagrammed and easy to follow.  Just google "stitch diagrams" and you'll be amazed by what you'll find.
