these would be great as beach sandals or after-bath if you have to use a  seperate shower facility than your home/dorm.

I clicked the This Rocks button cuz these are awesome on sooo many levels! I love the recycling part, they are certainly a conversation starter, they are unique (betcha have never seen a pair in real life before!) and if you never wear shoes (like me) unless you have to (in the store) so why BUY a pair of sandals when you can make your own?Huh? Woo Hoooooo

Thanks so much for the great idea and instrustions!!

Ooooo... and after you cut your "yarn" you can make these with the handles: Plastic Bag Handle Ghost: http://frugalliving.about.com/cs/halloween/a/blpghosts.htm as long as you used white bags LOL

Quote
Plastic Bag Handle Ghost:

Are you at a loss how to decorate for Holloween?? This won't cost you anything!

This is for everyone especially teachers for grades K thru 6th grade.

 Materials for one ghost:

    * 12 plastic grocery bag handles
    * Scraps of black/yellow/brown/#cc0000 yarn or fabric cut thin.
    * Black Fine Point permanent marker.

Take 12 bag handles and lay them together. Try to keep them even. Take a piece of yarn 10 inches long and tie a knot tightly in the middle of the handles. Then tie the ends together. That will become your hanger. Hold your hanger and pull both sides of plastic bag handles down. Tie another 8 inch piece of yarn about one inch down from the top and knot. (If you want you can tie a bow!)

Take 2 pieces of the handles from each side and tie a knot with a 6" piece of yarn to make hands and trim. The photo shows other ways to tie your ghost.

You can hang them from the ceiling, or put them on a bush since they are water proof. Let the kids have fun and put the eyes and mouth on with markers.

If you're still not ghosted out, here's how to make an old - fashioned, plain, sheet - over - the - head type of ghost costume.

Thanks, I'm glad you all like them Smiley

Tina, thanks for the link!  That looks like fun.  I've been trying to figure out what else to do with those handles, and that time of year is certainly coming up!

Yarn Freak, that's not a bad idea.  I picked up some Shoe Goo the other day, so I'll have to try it out (but not for a couple more weeks...I accidentally left my shoes in the wrong state).

Whee!  I wish I could hurry up and return to warm weather (and storage) so I can start wearing them again.

I am going to make these!  I will make two soles with craft foam between, for a cushy feel, and then crochet the soles together.  Have made a few bags with the plastic bag "yarn" and they do soften up after running them through the wash. (Always air drying, of course.) Awesome job!

I just had another thought: these would be perfect "water shoes" like for wading in the creek that always has sharp rocks...
