Furry Snow Hat, with Tutorial.

Hello, all.
   Inspired by the great work here, I decided to make my sister and self hats. Granted, we live in Southern California and it never snows... I'm going to D.C. for a week and my sister snowboards.
   Anyways, I don't know the exact name for these, but I suppose I'll just call them furry snow hats. This was my first time coming up with a pattern and making a hat.

The reverse (yes! they're reversible!):

The flaps can also be flipped up. I still need to attach ribbon/string on them so they tie. 

Woo hoo for homemade hats!

The Tutorial:
You'll need--An outer fabric and a fabric for lining. (If fur is wanted, substitute the lining flaps and lid with it.)
These are the basic shapes for the pieces (you can also trace another hat's general shape):


Cut out your pieces from the outer fabric and lining. You should end up with two of everything, except for the flaps, which you'll have four of:

Pin all outer fabric pieces together, right sides together. Do the same with the lining. (The round top of the hat should connect to the curved part of the long side piece.) The pieces can be pinned one at a time, then sewn, but it's quicker to pin all at once, then sew all at once:
 
you should end up with these:

Sew along wherever you pinned the pieces, and you'll end up with these:


Place the lining inside the other, right sides together, and pin:


Sew them together, remembering to leave a space unsewn so you can flip the hat rightside out. (I left the space in the back, between the earflaps):


Once you have that done, flip the hat so that the right sides are now out. And sew up the hole:


Now you're done! Woo hoo!
