Is it a smug married move to put up a picture of yourself from your wedding prominently displayed in your living room? I have 2 5x7 pics up on my living room wall (matted in a nice frame). 1 is of me and dh right after we were pronounced married and they other is of me standing alone. My family (including my husband) are totally ragging on me for putting up a picture of myself.

I'm latin...latin's put up 20x40 self portraits with the fuzzy haze glowing in the background as the subject stares into the sublime abyss (looking virginal I might add). I think my choice of photos & placement is not a cheesy move.

Any opinions?

ABSOLUTELY NOT!  I think that having pictures of your marriage as prominent fixtures in the home is WONDERFUL!  It's a daily reminder of your love, commitment, and one of the happiest days of your life!  We (my husband and I) have a picture of us on our wedding day up in our bedroom as well as some other things from our wedding being displayed- and a picture of my husband and his brother goofing around on the wedding day displayed in our living room.  I think it's great that you have two beautiful pictures of your day on the wall-- more power to you!

I have up some wedding pictures as well, including one of just me. (a 4x6 in a frame with pictures of us together) I thought people would think it was weird at first, but then I decided I didn't care because that was my favorite wedding picture of me, regardless of whether my DH was in it.

I know some people who have done things such as Glamour Shots and then proceeded to put up an 18x24 pic of themselves, which I think is a but weird. But wedding pictures are different, and 5x7? That's totally tasteful. I say leave it up.

I would put out my wedding pics if I thought for a moment that my boys wouldn't thrash them within minutes so for now they stay safely put away .  For what it is worth I see wedding pics in more houses than not, so the weirdos are the ones who don't hold a special place for their special day pics!

Who cares what anyone else thinks of how you decorate your own home?! Kiss

Here is the offending picture. It's not so much that I care what others think as much as I think I have possibly become a smug married. The other day I caught myself trying to convert a singleton to marriage-dom. I wasn't sure if I was too far gone or what.

Thx Guys.

Do what you feel is right for you!  It is your house, your wedding, do what you want!

I catch hell because the only wedding picture I have displayed is done by a caricature artist friend of our's who did caricatures at our wedding! It is my favorite wedding picture!  We look like cool cartoon character versions of ourselves!

I agree with everybody else, leave your picture up, it's not tacky or smug, it's a daily reminder of what is supposed to be the happiest day in your life, why not have it displayed in your home?  Besides, that is a gorgeous picture, you were a stunning bride, so I think you should show it off, and if people don't like it, they don't have to look at it.  I think if it was a lifesized portrait, that would be different, but a 5x7 photograph is very tastefull.

I think that portrait of you is beautiful, and it would be a shame not to display it. It's lovely and artistic, as well as a reminder of your wedding day and the commitments you and your DH made.

What a beautiful picture!  You have only hung a 5 x 7 anyway, so what are your family going on about - it's not like you've wallpapered the place with your own pictures!

I'd tell them that you are starting a feature wall for family portraits and that this is where you'll hang all the baby photos too, and that by choosing modest 5 x 7 sizes for your wedding photos you'll be able to fit all the gazillions of baby pictures up there too.  Then they can start nagging you about "when are you going to have babies" instead of about the photo.  It will be just as annoying, of course, but given that every newly married couple will eventually be nagged about having babies you could just consider this a nudge away from the irritating photo-nagging.

I have a wall dedicated to photos and I have 3 kids and I can see myself needing to move onto another wall soon...

It's only 5x7? I totally agree with what everyone else has said so far.

I'm chiming in because I used to be a custom picture framer. You have no idea how big those bride only wedding photos can get! The largest one I framed was 16x20! BEFORE THE HUGE MATT AND FRAME! Normally those were brought in by rich country club type young women (and some old ones too).

5x7 is modest and tasteful. leave it.

My husband is Korean and we had wedding pictures taken there. We have a huge picture of us hung in our bedroom. That's the thing to do in Korea when you are a young married couple--hang up your huge weddding picture(s) in your house. Eventually it seems that those huge wedding pictures give way to huge family pictures. I don't see anything wrong with it.

Shouldn't we all be celebrating that we are happily married to the people we love and letting people see that? I don't think it's smug. It would be kind of silly to spend the money on pictures and then let them just sit in some closed-up album. And we all know that wedding pictures ain't cheap.

I say celebrate your wedding day and the love it represents, celebrate that you looked beautiful, and let everyone else know that it's actually good to be happy about being married!

I agree-my mother has a 16x20 of just me matted and framed *that's size without the frame just like quoted here* in their living room...she says someday it will be mine Cheesy

I panicked when I read this thread. In our bedroom I have 6 framed wedding pictures on my hope chest.

I also have wedding photos from my brother's and my husband's brother's weddings.

Hmm.

Im also constantly worrying about turning into a smug married as I am the only one of my friends whos hitched!  Im not sure what the warning signs are but I dont think that having a few 5x7s around of your wedding is one of them.  My vote is to keep them up!
