I know these are very basic and simple, but I still wanted to show them.  I am placing a couple in craftstores when the summer comes.  My area goes crazy in the summer with tourists, and I thought these were kind of unique (I've never seen them here anyways) and a pretty trinket some visitors might like to pick up.

Sorry, they were very hard to take pictures of! There is no "cosmetic" work done the them, just little coating to make them hard, the colours are natural.  And just for the record, no sanddollars were harmed during the making of this project! All were found already "passed-on" on a local beach.
[So sorry about the big pics!!!]

how did you get the rings on them to run the ribbon through? my and some friends collected a bunch on a girls beach getaway and i'd love to be able to turn them into a little wearable momento for us all.

I used a teeny drill bit (the smallest one) and drilled a hole a little down for the edge of the sanddollar.  Then I simply inserted the jump ring!

I used just your basic acrylic craft spray stuff.  I have heard of people using a white glue and water mixture as well.

My bf and I are beach crazies, so we'd never take any that are still alive and kickin'!!!  I sprayed them first and then drilled.  I put quite a few coats on too... just because I was so paranoid they might break while drilling.
