The customer wanted something unique.  Something different.  Something to make the baby stand out.  Something reversible.

Here's the finished product:

Sized 3-6 mo.

That bib is a great match! Very important to keep the drool off the dress.

Those are outstanding baby outfits and very unusual too. I really like them. If I had babies, they would be wearing things like this.

Very pretty!  May I ask if you use a commerical pattern or you own?  I am trying to sew up some baby dresses myself and trying to find a simpler pattern.  I love the fabric you used!

I use a very simple commercial pattern for a jumper.  Just two pieces to the outside garment.  Instead of cutting the interfacing pieces, I cut two fronts and two backs.

I sew the side seams of the first front/back set, then the second set.  With right sides facing, I then sew the neck and armholes continuously.  This includes the straps where the buttons and buttonholes will be.  Clip your corners at the ends of the straps and clip into your rounded areas.

Turn right side out.  Use a crochet hook or similar to make your corners sharp.  Press.

Hem both edges.  Top stitch if desired.

This is extremely easy to do.  It takes me longer to cut it out and hem it than anything else.  I can't wait to get a serger so I can really rip through these.

This is great!  I'm all for non-pastel baby clothes in general, and this is just, well, fab.
Reading your instructions... so, do you hem each fabric separately?  That sounds like a good idea!

Yes, you'll need to hem both edges separately.  Sometimes I add a little lace to the edge of one hem.  If I'm not making it reversible, I will hem the lining 1/2 inch shorter.  Sometimes I'll use the iron-on hem tape, too.  Once I get a serger, watch out!

That would indeed be a groovy baby.
I think the dress looks great. I bet the baby would find it stimulating too!
