hey there arizonan craftsters! Smiley
i was wondering if i've got any fellow tucsonans out there! would any of you be interested in a kind of unofficial swap? since i'm new here i've got to wait until i join any real swaps Sad BUT since we'd all be in town, we could meet in person to do our swap instead of mailing it. sound fun? let me know...

edit: also, could you guys tell me where you shop for cheap fabric? it would be much appreciated Smiley thanks!

i go to SAS fabrics a lot.  it's a huge mess, but it works.  it is on speedway and craycroft i believe.    if you are into thrift stores my favorite is value village on 4th avenue across from omalleys.  they have amazing deals on saturdays!  hope it helps.

Yay desert! I'd like a swap, or a fabric hunt at SAS, or a craft night at Shot in the Dark/ coffeehouse of your choice...

Hi, I'm in Tucson, too, although I'm a mom of teens and wife to working husband. I'm just about to start selling (I hope) on Etsy. I like to make things out of vintage and retro linens. There are some shops on the eastside where I live where you can pick up finds for a dollar or 2. They may be rarer here than Value Village, but they're so much cheaper.

Keep in touch. I don't have anyone to sit and craft with. Would be nice to see real people now and then.

Also if you get on the Jo-Ann fabric mailing list, you get 40% off coupons. While it's all new stuff, the coupon (and they email them - I just print 4 or 5) makes it possible to afford specialty fabrics like brocades and boucle now and then.

w00t!  zonie & proud!  i generally go to SAS or JoAnns.  I also get hand-me-down fabric-heehee!  an in-town swap would be kewl!  I'm always startled to see fellow Tusconans online!  BTW, Speedway Thrift Outlet is a great source for cheap clothes that can be worn/attacked/altered etc.

OOh, I'll be there (as long as it's after mid-August... I'll be back by then!!). I'm debating whether I am bringing all of my craft equipment back from where I am now, I'll be in Tucson to finish school at the U of A, and I'm not going to have a lot of storage space for my crafts where I'll be living (I think I'll be bringing my sewing machine, knitting needles, and card making supplies). But if we can find a place where there's room for people to bring their craft stuff, maybe we can all share?

Hey fellow Craftsters,

Just wondering if anyone would be interested in getting together in early September. Let's bounce ideas off of each other for things we could do, and plan for something.

I might have a place to volunteer for this shindig, but I'll have to ask my friend (I'll be staying with her during school, so it's her place). But, I'm sure we can figure out something. Post here or P.M. me and I can start organizing!

Hope to meet lots of you soon!

 Lips sealed

Well, I'm heading back and getting in on the 14th, but that whole week my husband and I are helping my mother in law with her house that's going on the market soon....

U of A starts on the 21st this year, but maybe we can do something that weekend? I think I'm heading to Phoenix that Sunday, but if that Saturday works for other people, why not? Even if it is just for a couple of hours, we can still all meet each other.

Hi! I'm a Tucsonan too! I went to Flowing Wells Jr. High, and High Philip, but I graduated way back in '93. I also go to SAS and JoAnn's and thrift stores. I also used to find lots of cheap fabric at the swap meet, but haven't seen any lately.  If you're all looking for a larger place to get together, the downtown library has all sizes of meeting rooms. My old job used to have a huge Christmas party there every year. I don't think there is a charge, but I'll look into it if you like. I'd like to get together too, but I don't knit. I did as a kid but can't seem to pick it up again. I do just about every other craft though.

Posted in general Arizona - check it out - want to host an alternative crafts fair monthly and also one during the 4th Avenue Street Fair since booths there run so high.

Can accommodate about 8 tables in our small center on 6 Street between 4 and 5 avenues. Check out the other post if you're interested. I think it would be a great area for a fair. I make recon goth/punk clothing and have nowhere to sell it. We don't get much regular retail trafiic as a buddhist center, but when we flyer 4th like crazy, people really show up! We're just down from Plush.

Would be nice to start with September 1 if 8 folks (or more with sharing) could do it. I'm fairly busy many weekends with Buddhist studies and classes so I'm trying to pick first Sat of the month for monthly fairs.

Reviving this old thread again-- I'm a tucsonan as well.  I've been a bit busy lately (I've got a 10 month old daughter, work, and christmas gifts to get together)...but just throwing out that I'm open for meeting new people.  I don't knit (seems like I'm the only one!), but I'm learning to sew and I need to break into my absurdly large paper crafting stash as well as a screen printing kit I got for my birthday.  I'm also into stenciling and other random crafts.  I have a couple of friends who are "trying" (read: talking about) to set up a crafting night.   If you want to get ahold of me, here is my myspace page: myspace.com/pantaloony

BTW, river_horse... my land lord's company is called River Horse enterprises, and I know he has a couple of daughters around my age going to U of A.  You wouldn't happen to be one of them, would you?

Hi there-
I just moved here from Minneapolis, MN and am really excited to get crafting again.  I sold off all my furniture and left all my craft materials behind, since I flew down here and shipped only my life essentials (10 boxes containing shoes and all my clothes *sigh*).

I was in a craft club called "The Crafty Bitches" and I hosted a weekly ladies craft night in Minneapolis.  I love sewing, revamping furniture and general craftiness.

If anyone has any tips on acquiring cheap old furniture to revamp or some great craft supplies stores, that would be great.  Once I get settled into my permanent home (which will be in August) I would love to meet some other Tucson craftsters/possibly host a craft evening.

So, let me know if anyone would be interested!

SAS Fabric by the pound is awesome for fabric and misc notions (I got some awesome gold chain there that I'm still not done with the project for. I have a thing with half-done WIPs.). The thrift stores are always great for cheap stuff Smiley 99 cent shirt racks for the win!

In other news, it says something for the amount of traffic in this section that I forgot about the site for about a year and the most recent topic has a post by me in it. -.-

I'm in Tucson too, and as it happens I'm also in the market for some new social connections. I'd love to chat with some local crafters and/or attend some meetups. ^_^

SAS is definately the best cloth place I've found in town. JoAnne's is good too, but I like the...I dunno, randomness....of SAS. Digging through the tables full of cloth is like a treasure hunt, I get so excited when I find something really unique. Cheesy Unfortunately, too many trips there has resulted in my own little mountain of cloth. It will take me years to use it all, haha.

So, days after I posted my message calling out craftsters in Tucson, I decided to move back to Minneapolis.  I just was not settling in or adjusting well at all.

But, in the past few weeks I got TONS of emails from cool, tucson craftster chicas who I would have loved to hang out with.  So, maybe someone will take the reigns and organize something?  The interest is there...

I just went to a craft night in Minneapolis the other night, and I forgot how much fun it can be.

Good luck to all you Tucson craftsters!

Haven't heard anything on a craft night or club of any sorts. I try not to spend much time in the crafty stores or shoppes since I'm at home trying to be crafty. I wouldn't mind joining one either. Not good at organizing these things though, so I would be nothing but FAIL if I started it up.
But I'm open to suggestions for a meet at a store in town that is all craft related.

Hey Paula, I live in Tucson and wouldn't mind a drive to Casa Grande. It would give me chance to check out the shops there. Haven't been to the outlet malls since 2000. Timing is my only problem, Husband has our car most the time for work and our truck is broken atm. We can plan something for future if ya like, PM me and we can get stuff rolling.  Grin

There is a craft meetup here in Tucson.  It's called Craft n' Chat.  http://www.meetup.com/tucson-craftn-chat/
I've never been, it looks like most of the ladies are older, but I would love to go if other younger craftsters would go the same day.  They have meetups on Sat. mostly about 2 times a month.

Thanks for this update.   I have bookmarked the page.  But I usually do shows on weekends.  Weekends (for me) are for work.  Maybe if I don't have a show I would be able to attend a couple of these meetings.

I think recently they also had a couple of meetings on Tuesday evening.  I think that would be a good time for a lot of people.  No worries v3nu5, I don't think I'd be able to go for a couple weeks anyway.  I've got enough stuff of my own going on.   Wink  Have fun with your company and PM if you want to make plans for later on.

Hey, if you guys are willing to join up on this again... I would be more than happy with helping organize it. I'm moving here soon and would also love to meet other crafters in the area! I'll pretty much be available any day of the week!
