Dumbles and Voldy love to shimmy!

View Profile
« on: March 25, 2006 04:17:53 AM »

My sister loves the Potter Puppet Pals. So for Christmas (I know, I'm so behind in my posting!) I crocheted her a Voldemort! He turned out so cute and not evil looking that we have re-named him Voldy!

He's not a puppet but she loves him! So much so that she now wants an entire cast of crochet characters! Even those not in the puppet pals - she loves Malfoy!

A new friend for Voldy has been completed...

Dumbles!

Pattern!

This pattern can be used to make any of the Potter Puppet Pals. The colour of yarn used to make the pieces and the embroidered embellishments are what makes them different.

Body (Make 2)
Ch 25. Sc in first ch from hook. Sc along to the end of row.
*a* Turn, sc in 2nd sc from hook (so you skip one sc). Sc along row until you reach last two scs. Skip one and sc in last sc of row. (You have now decreased the row by two scs).
*b* Turn, sc along whole row.
Continue *a* and *b* alternately until piece is 7 scs wide.
Then repeat *b* for 6 rows.
Tie off and tuck in ends.
Embroider on any design elements such as Dumbledore's stars.

Feet (Make 4)
Ch 5. Sc in first ch from hook. Sc along to end of row.
Turn, sc in 2nd sc from hook. Sc in next sc, skip next sc and sc in final sc.
Turn, sc along.
Turn, sc in 2nd sc from hook, sc in final sc.
Turn, sc in 2nd sc from hook.
Tie off and tuck in ends.

Hands (Make 4)
Ch 4. Sc in first ch from hook. Sc along to end of row.
Turn, sc in 2nd sc from hook. Sc in final sc of row.
Turn, sc in 2nd sc from hook.
Tie off and tuck in ends.

Arms (Make 4)
Ch 8. Sc in first ch from hook. Sc along to end of row.
*a* Turn, sc in first sc from hook. Sc along to end of row.
*b* Turn, sc in 2nd sc from hook. Sc along to final 2 scs. Skip one and sc in final sc of row.
Continue *a* *a* *b* until piece is 2 scs wide.
Then repeat *a* for 2 rows.
Tie off and tuck in ends.

Head (Make 2)
This started off as the half ball pattern posted by BeaG. I altered and omitted some of the last few rounds to make it flatter. The original pattern is shown in italics.
Ch4, join. Continue by working in spirals (mark the start/end of a round with a safety pin)
R1: 6 sc in circle
R2: 2 sc in every sc (=12)
R3: 2 sc in every 2nd sc (=18)
R4: 2 sc in every 2nd sc (=27)
R5: 27 sc
R6: 2 sc in every 4th sc (=33)
R7: 2 sc in every 4th sc (=41)

R8: 41 sc
R9: 41 sc
Tie off and tuck in ends.
Embroider on facial features and add any hair/Dumbledore's beard.

Ears
Ch 3. Sc in first sc from hook. Sc along to end of row.
Turn, sc in 2nd sc from hook. Sc in final sc of row.
Tie off and tuck in ends.

Hat - Dumbledore (Make 2)
Ch 15. Sc in first sc from hook. Sc along to the end of row.
*a* Turn, sc in 2nd sc from hook. Sc along row until you reach last two scs. Skip one and sc in last sc of row.
*b* Turn, sc along whole row.
Continue *a* and *b* alternately until piece is 1 sc wide.
Tie off and tuck in ends.
Embroider on star.

Finishing Off
Sew together feet pieces, adding stuffing.
Sew together body pieces, adding stuffing and incorporating sewing in the feet at the base.
Sew together hand pieces, adding stuffing.
Sew together arm pieces, adding stuffing and incorporating sewing in the hands at the wider end.
Sew arms on to the body near the top.
Sew together the head, adding stuffing and incorporating sewing onto the body at the bottom.
Sew on the ears.
If making Dumbledore - Sew together hat pieces, adding stuffing and incorporating sewing onto the head.

This is the first pattern I've written so if there are any problems with it please let me know.

Thanks for looking and happy bothering if you decide to make one!  Cheesy

Thank you all for your compliments!  Cheesy

SeeMe - There is no proper pattern for him. I made him by creating crochet pieces using single crochet with decreasing to shape and sewing them together. eg I made one piece for the front of the gown and one for the back and sewed them together. So it's really easy as long as you don't mind a bit of sewing!

That is so freakin awesome!!!

A few months ago I started making a Snape doll similar to your Voldy, but mine wasn't coming out nowhere near as good(so he's been put off to the side for now) as your's!

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE EEEEEEEEEEEE! A tutorial is now needed. It is demanded. Approximatley five people might (or might not) be bothered to get away from thier computers long enough to hunt you down if one is not posted!

Actually, make that four. I'm too lazy to hunt people down, hehe

daisyduke - Voldy is about 19cm tall and Dumbles is about 23cm because of his hat. I haven't made any more recently because I've been too busy - I think the next on my sister's list is Gred and Forge though, so it could be a while before they're done! I'd love to see any Pals that anyone makes too.

ourglasslake - If you have any problems with the pattern let me know. It's all just single crochet so could be a great early project - mine were all scarves!
