These are two of the coolest craft books I've ever seen:

Cheap Frills

Retro Revamp

Both books are by Jennifer Knapp.

"Cheap Frills" is now out of print (boohoo!) though you can get a used copy. Cheap Frills has all kinds of projects, from the very simple (add lace to a tank to make it "Kiki's Parisian Boudoir t-shirt") to the less simple ("Movie Star Handbag").
"Retro Revamp" has the coolest funky projects, including "Dashboard Shrines," "Divine Dresser," and my personal favorite, "Happy Smiling Wallets."
Both books have large color photos for most projects and are highly recommended!!

I totally agree. I have both of those books and I love them! I kinda wish they had more photos than illustrations but anyway they are full of great ideas.

I also noticed that Jennifer Knapp has at least one other craft book out. Here's a search for her name:

(I cleaned those Amazon links, MissRoo. Hope you don't mind.)
