Gorgeous! I love them both but the red is my favorite. It looks like the Knit Picks yarn was a great substitute. Now I want to make one. Off to get that book . . .

I second, fourth, fifth....the red cabled sweater is gorgerous. I just learned to do cabling and I am hoooooked on it. I love the extra dimension it adds and the possibilities for intricate detail. Dare I ask how long it took to make that?? You should be very pleased!

Thanks, everyone!  Smiley  ladybugger, the red cabled sweater took me a little over three months - but I was knitting other projects at the same time.  It's pretty labor-intensive but very worth it, not only because the finished product is nice but because the process is interesting with all the different patterns going on at once.  I learned a lot about cabling from it.
