I got this info from my Church of Craft email. I thought some craftsters might have some interesting stories.

KNITTING THROUGH IT
Edited by Lela Nargi
Voyageur Press, Fall 2007
There are all sorts of reasons to knit, and knitters wield the needles
in happy times and times of ambiguity; to celebrate, to unwind, to
distract, to show off. Many of us also knit through times of crisis and
uncertainty, through the rough patches that pepper any life. What
determines a crisis is an individual matter: illness (ours or that of a loved
one) and death; war; financial strain; loneliness; radical life change;
stresses from outside forces, or from those that lurk within. Knitting
can calm and relieve, focus our mind and also help it to drift,
assuage.

For a new anthology of 20-25 essays, I am looking for writers to
contribute essays on â•?knitting through it.â•?  These stories need not
relate directly to the examples mentioned above, but should fall somewhere
within the parameters of the general theme, with an emphasis on the
positive transformative power of knitting. Essays may be about a personal
experience, or the experience of someone known to  â•„ or even, more
vaguely, known of by â•„ the writer. Special consideration will be given
to voices not often heard from in the knitting community, those that
speak of the immigrant and Native American experiences, for example.

Full-length essays will be between 1,500-3,000 words. Payment: $100
Shorter reminiscences of up to 300 words will also be considered but
the editor regrets that no payment can be offered for these.

Please submit only your best work. I am looking for strong narratives
with excellent writing, good storytelling, and diverse voices.

ABOUT THE EDITOR: Lela Nargi is author of Knitting Lessons: Tales from
the Knitting Path (Tarcher/Penguin 2003), and editor of the forthcoming
anthology Knitting Memories (Voyageur Press Fall 2006). She contributes
articles and essays, including many about knitting, to a host of
national magazines, journals and anthologies.

TO SUBMIT YOUR WORK: please send electronically to
lelanargi@earthlink.net, with essay pasted into the body of the email.
I WILL NOT OPEN ANY EMAILS WITH ATTACHMENTS. Write KNITTING THROUGH IT
in the subject line. Any inquiries can also be directed to this
address.

FORMAT: If accepted for publication, I will request that you
electronically submit a final double-spaced copy, along with a short bio. Please
include your name, address, phone number, and email address with all
correspondence.
