I love this pattern- many thanks for the tute.
I have made 2 of them now and all seems to go well until the very end. I have issues with straps and am never happy with them. But on this bag I seem to have problems with the zipper gusset. It lays neatly inside the bag until I do the topstitching after which it then seems to want to pop up. Strange, I know. What could I possibly be doing wrong??

Hmmm.  That's interesting.  I have tried this the jordy way when the main and lining are sewn at the top and an opening is left in the lining for turning, like this:

and mine stuck up and I had to top stitch to make the gusset sit down.

Perhaps...do you have a pic?

I have a pic but I am out of server space to upload right now. I sell on eBay and I have no server space left until after auctions end Sun. I can email one- don't know if that is allowed or not tho.

Thanks for the tutorial.  I made this bag using it quite a while ago, but I just got around to taking a picture of it.

I could never quite figure out how to put in a zipper, and this tutorial explained it really well Smiley

I know that this is AGES after you posted this tutorial, but I'm new to the site and the purse/wallet tutorials are what brought me here  Cheesy

Your bag is beautiful!!  I've only done a few purses and I've been looking for a gussetted zipper explanation...yours is perfect!  Thanks for taking the time!

Hi There!
Omg! this tut is FABO!!! I am sooooo new to this site. I didn't even know this type of blog/forum existed! I just happened to have been searching on google 'how to insert zipper' and then this link came up.

I just finished a tote that i absolutly love the fabric combo that i used......however the entire time i was designing and sewing it I kept saying to myself........Man i wished i knew how to put a recessed zipper in it. I ended up just putting a top zipper closure to it w/ a flap to hide most of the zipper! lol

I only WISHED i would have seen this a few days earlier!! UGH!

Your tut is FABULOUS.......I haven't tried it yet, but so far, I understood it word for word. I am soooooooooo excited to try this!!!

THANKS so much!!!!! ok, like i said, i am new to this whole thing...........what is a jordy???

Boy do I feel dumb....I have been doing zipper/gussets the hard way all this time (assemble exterior, assemble liner, topstitch liner to exterior, assembel zipper top, then topstitch all three layers  Tongue) and to think all I had to do differently is sew the liner to zippertop then insert into exterior and topstitch Shocked. So simple but yet I didn't see it before....what a goober am I Grin.

Thanks for saving my sanity~MARY
