So I went to Goodwill the other day to get some shorts that will actually cover some portion of my body, unlike most new shorts that I see for sale.  I ended up getting a huge pair of jean-style cotton pants.  I cut off the legs, and was quite happy with the resulting shorts.  Because the pants were so long to begin with, the legs that I cut off were pretty large so I tried to think of some way to reuse them, and came up with this skirt.  The ankles were skinnier than the other end, so it sort of naturally became an A-line.  I basically just ripped one side seam in each leg, opened up the hollow ankle hem at all 4 seams, sewed it all back together, and threaded an I-cord into the "casing" (the ankle hem)  It still needs some finished touches.  I have some black lace I might put around the hem at the bottom.  End result:  One comfy pair of shorts, and one long breezy skirt for $4!  What do you think?

I'm going to reply to my own post to point out the roving behind me in the pic.  We have pounds and pounds of it from our own sheep and goats if anybody wants to buy some Smiley

you may want to contact those who do a lot of fake hair- they would usually kill to get their hands on fresh roving- I used to make dreads from it...
Here's a few places where you may find some people interested:

and a company that sells the stuff- just use their quick search for "Roving"

Thanks a lot for the tip!  I posted on that first board you linked.  I'll see what comes of that.
