embroidering on flannel?

Would you be able to embroider on flanel? My gram said the nap make it hard?? What do you think?? Any suggestions?

when I do machine embroidery on flannels I put a layer of Solvey (the thin kind, not the heavy) on top of my work in addition to the two layers of cutaway on the bottom.  That keeps the fuzzys from being a problem while sewing and washes right out.  Since I go over my work three or more times I haven't had trouble with "peekers" of the ground fabric peeking through the threads.  I've done the same thing with cotton velvetteen and regular velvet, it works there also.  I think it will work for hand work, you just need to be more carefull of stitch coverage.

The reson I wanted to do flannel was couse it was on sale very cheap ...  But if I have to add extra products it may not be worth it.  But I saved the tips for later use.

this is me doing stuff with a machine.  by hand just the Solvey on top may work (hooped though) just fine.  I've never hand embroidered flannel.

I do my stuff by machine as my hand embroidery makes my cat laugh.

though i've never worked on flannel, i work on felt all the time (also kind of nappy) and i've never had a problem.

I did a project on flannel and it's amazing.  It's very simple, all I needed was a hoop.  Next to felt, it's my favorite fabric to work on.
