hehe. Honestly, when I think back on the 70's, the macrame owl sums up the whole decade: Dull, itchy, and probably smelling like cigars and onions because they usually hung up in the kitchen/dining room. But sort of cute and funky too.  It seems like everyone we knew had one in their house all through the 70's and mid- 80s.

Oh my goodness...I made heaps of Macrame Owls when I was 15yrs old...some 29yrs ago...&...I might add I still have one here on my loungeroom wall & my mum still has the one I made her too, hanging in her hallway, which I keep eyeing off...It will be mine again one day...
