This is my first shrine.
The print at the top is a quote from Frida Kahlo: "Feet, why do I need them if I can fly?"

This is the inside view.

I was thrilled to find two El  Corazon loteria cards that had opposite pics, I like how the arrows point towards the center. The main pic is behind glass, and attached with some E6000 are my famous hoo-ha's (sequins and glitter). Everything I used to make this came from thrift stores except the loteria cards which came to me in a swap. The small female clay figures came from a necklace, the lacey pieces are plastic doilies and I thought they reminded me of mantillas( I hope I'm using the right word, my espanol is a bit rusty) , the candle holders are large macrame beads.

Thanks for looking. Cheesy

Oh Stifflersmom...that's...wow...stunning! I'm really, really impressed! You've got to make sure you join in the upcoming shrine swap.

What is the body of the piece made of? I'm seriously jealous if you found that in a thrift store...we do NOT have thrift stores
that have anything like that in Missouri, I can assure you of that.

Thanks everyone!  Amaryllisroze, I've always admired your shrines.
The body is from a thrift store, $2. It's a picture frame, and as soon as I saw it on the shelf, I knew what it really wanted to be. Cheesy
I thrift about 3-4 times a week. The good stuff is out there, you've just gotta dig for it sometimes. Smiley

I bought the shrine book by Kathy Cano-Murillo and was really inspired.
I'm working on another for a swap, it's really addicting.

The one thing I just haven't found at the thrifty is little barbie accessories. I want to make a shrine to shoes & purses, but I don't want to buy them new. (I'm so cheap Cheesy)

I got the book several months ago and I feel the same way about it! But I don't think I could sing the Murillo's praises enough. She & her husband are just wicked, wicked talented.

What a great idea! I've picked up little mini food there for yet another shrine I've got in the planning stages. I'll have to run at lunch and check for bitty shoes. THANKS!!

I've got a stash of retro purses to paint up like Patrick Murillo's. I just love their work!!

Garage sale season in Minnesota starts in about a month, I can't wait!!
Every year for my birthday I fill up the car with gas, grab some good tunes, pack some snacks and hit thrift stores and auctions out in the country, out of my usual stomping grounds. It's so much fun!

I keep shoebox sized plastic bins for each shrine idea, so when I get home from a thrifting mission I can keep the little things sorted.

That really is just beautiful! I can tell how much you love Frida.

I've been meaning to pick up that book! Kathy Cano-Murillo's stuff is so cool - not to mention that she took time out of her busy crafty life to answer an email I sent her...

hearts and stars!

I think my favorite shrine in Kathy's book is the one that someone made from an old toy truck. It looks like a parade float. Very cool!

Its definitely damaging to mine! Good thing I got a bonus this year...

Oh, and I got my Frida sugar skull mold yesterday and made some plaster ones. They should be dry in the next day or so and I'll post them after I paint them up. They're going to rock!

wwfd swap would be awesome, frida inspired crafts/art. so much potential! (i started signups for the embellished cross swap if anyone is interested http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=85031.0 )

i saw the cruise, kinda pricey, but i seriously considered it, but then i would be by myself, and as much as i entertain myself, it would be nice to have someone to go with.

but she is coming to good ol' cali for the bazaar bizarre/maker faire, can't wait!

Just about everything came from a thrift store. I found a bag of 5 sets of 1950's plastic doilies for like a buck. I've had them for over a year just knowing they had a higher purpose. Cheesy
