My mom is the type of person who always tells me a hug and a kiss is all she wants for any holiday. I want to do something special for her this year. We're taking a trip to NYC in the middle of May so I was thinking of something that she could take with her for that. Plus I'm most likely going up there to school which is 1,000 miles away from where I live now and I want it to be something she can always remember me by even when I'm not here.

I really want to make something for my grandmother too.

My mom is into: cooking, music, shopping, clothes, purses, jewlery, traveling, etc.
My grandmother is retired, likes soap operas, elvis (we share that!), coffee, cigarettes. She hates leaving the house, going out to dinner, etc.

Any ideas for either or both would be appreciated!

ok this idea could turn out to be a bit extravagant but hopefully inspiring at the least
anywho onto the idea...
try buying (froma recylcers or anywhere cheap really) a little round outside table and chairs that match preferrably that look like some from a little cafe. Re-vamp them if you wish; maybe get a table top that you can put photos and memoribilia underneath the glass top so whenever your mum misses you she can see your smiling face Smiley and get an umbrella or some thing that will shade the table (i was thinking red material with white polka dots-dont ask lol) make or find a cute little ashtray for the middle of the table and that way she can feel as if shes out to lunch without leaving home!

What about a bag (so she could take it to NY) with a picture of you on it? It could be a stencil, an embroidery or maybe a vinyl pocket so you could change photos. If you use a stencil you could use it on something for your grandma too. Maybe a cushion or something for when she's watching tv. Alternatively maybe some nice warm slippers for at home, although I wouldn't know how to make them.

This wouldn't be good for taking on vacation, but somwhere on this board someone did a very beautiful photo collage with a scrabble board. Maybe that could work?
