P.S. My plan in the not-too-distant future is to start investigating how much it will cost to hire someone to handle many of the technical aspects of Craftster like configuring the server and database to handle such a large forum. Craftster is so large -- and growing all the time -- that it's time to bring in the big guns!

Someone else may have already suggested this, but I would look into making the topics purge after a while.  I know it's *really* neat to be able to check out topics from 2003, but at the same time, any pics from back then are often no longer available, and besides, it must make your database GINORMOUS!!!

Just a thought!  Smiley
Sorry to hear you have to battle databases with a flu.

On the other hand, I was thinking, when I saw the site down today again, that:
1) The database must be very big.
2) Mysql must have some kind of limit of size and this one must be near it to be getting corrupted every now and then.
3) That you really need a database administrator to check it out.
4) That I'd love to help, but I am not sure I understand mysql enough to.

In any case, when you get better, if you would like to bounce a couple of ideas, I'd be glad to help in any way.

Hmm...if the database size is causing some of the problems I wonder if archiving old threads to another DB, then having a read-only sister forum called 'Craftster Archives' or some such would help?? The authentication user tables would still be in the main DB so there would not be multiple logins. Since even an archive would grow large after a while perhaps one for each year?? hmm not sure. If it were an Exchange server I could be of some help.  Undecided

*edited to say...if there were an archives forum of the old posts I guess no one would really need permissions in there except Leah and some mods. Since it would be read-only people could just Guest on there*

I wo
Leah,
Just remember on your worst day that close to 50,000 people adore you and hang on your every word.
What does it feel like to be famous?
That is a amazing accomplishment.
Hope you are feeling better.

I would have to say that most of those 50000 people probably DO know who you are, I certainly would know your name if I heard it or read it.

Get well soon, and thanks very much for all your hard work.

I think the only real cure is time, rest, and liquids.  The flu is a virus and there is no medicine to "cure" it, only to make you more comfortable, like tylenol and stuff.

Ugh, I second the vote for Emetrol (unless someone already did it)...
But mainly a warm bath, lots of orange juice and 7up, some cinnamon toast and a good friend to rub your back.

Thanks for getting Craftster working, again.  I was flipping out w/o it...as per usual.  Undecided

Life isn't complete 'til you crochet a uterus for a friend.  Just make sure your fallopian tubes point down and not up! No one needs to lose an eye this way! Wink
