T-shirt quilt!

I know there are a few people who've made these before, but after a long time I finally helped finished this one:



It ended up being about 3 sessions. My friends Craig and Jon have a beavy of awesome t-shirts (as evidenced here!) and asked me and a crafty pal of mine, Stacie, to help them with making a t-shirt quilt. We made each square 12" X 12". We alternated the t-shirts with dark green flannel; the backing is pieced flannel (so it'll be super warm hopefully!). It's such a pain sewing with t-shirt material, so if you look too closely you can tell that some of the pieces don't square up perfectly. If we'd thought about it beforehand we probably would have used a stabilizer.

But as it is, it turned out well and they loved it.

I just saw after I posted my tshirt quilt that you had just posted one yesterday.  We must be on the same wavelength:)  Yours is awesome.  What a great selection of tshirts.  I think you did a great job of matching up the squares.  It was really hard for me to sew the t-shirt material too.

I love it! I've been trying to get my friends to donate their old band tshirts to me to make a similar quilt. It's easy to find tshirts. If they're old, I use mine as pajama shirts or to dye my hair in... but the print on the front is always still good!

I have always loved these old t-shirt quilts.  Such a good idea to use up the ones you never wear anymore.  Plus, you can never have too many blankets...I'm sitting here now at the computer with an old poncho liner.  And anything with the Jetsons on it is awesome in my opinion.

OMG is that a flash and green lantern shirt?! the only green lantern shirt ive seen in the shops was display only.
but anyway I love that quilt! it has some great shirts on it too

I SO SO SO need to do one of these with all my old tops - from uni activities, cartoons etc. My only problem is I don't know how to use a sewing machine - dad always thinks it's easier to do it for me than teach me  So how long do you guys reckon until I'm actually capable enough to achieve something like this.....?
