he all .. i want to make a hat like this .. just cos they are wicked as !!!! but i dont know what they are called ... i wanna search a few to see if i can get one cheap before attempting to make it (not a great hat maker)

i'm pretty sure it's called a "trapper". if you decide to go the make-your-own route, vogue accesories pattern V7981 includes a hat that looks exactly like the one in your photo. i hope this helps!

I've seen them sold under the name 'Mad Bombers' (seems to be a brand name), but the proper name is ushanka (уша́нка - I suck at Russian).  I usually see them at a lot of sporting goods stores around the start of hunting season.

I got mine at a Russian Army surplus sale (had to pry the Red Army badge off and everything Wink ), so a military surplus store might be a good place to look, too.
