My mother-in-law had me make this for her sister who is going thru some tough times right now...

Its a paper mache box that I got at Michael's, covered with mulberry paper and then paper & wood embellishments. Pretty simple.

What I especially like is that you didn't glamorize the cross.  I don't really "get" the crosses that are sparkly and jeweled - it's an execution instrument, so making it "pretty" doesn't make sense to me!  Your presentation was serious and tasteful - I like that the flowers and the cover are the pretty parts and the cross is very plain.

In this case, it was for a very serious occassion. My aunt-in-law (I guess technically that's her relation to me) is having some problems and her sister (my mother in law) wanted to give her something. While they are of different demoninations, they are both pretty devout.

I have a penchant for kitschy religious icons (that's probably pretty obvious) but I still respect others' religions. This one called for quiet simplicity.
