i made a euchre deck ...

the face cards are linoleum cuts with the colors stencilled.  the ace of spades is also a lino.  all the pips are stencilled.

detail of the king of clubs:

it is done on card catalog cards.  it's for the university of iowa's cARTalog project using their old catalog cards.  you can see other work for this project at their site: http://www.lib.uiowa.edu/pr/cartalog/

Those are amazing!  Excellent job!  How long did it take to make the entire deck?

i did all the linocuts, yes.  it actually didn't take as long as i thought it might.  i used the speedy-stamp stuff because i have pretty bad tendonitis and linoleum just kills my arm, so that probably helped.  got good detail though.  thanks for the nice comments!  i hope to make more cards, using different designs.

Your cards look really amazing! I have a question: how exactly did you do the different color parts? (I'm a newbie in printing)

the colors are all done using stencils.  i just printed the card 3 times with the block print, then cut out all the red parts on one card, the yellow on another and the black on a third, then used those cards to stencil with.  i put spray mount on the back of the stencil cards so that the little details would come out w/o blurring.

i did this deck using card catalog cards because that was part of the project; if i were to do another deck, however, i'd do one whole sheet with all the cards on it, stencil it, then cut it afterward.  much easier.  there are some decent stencil tutorials online.

I love this idea, and the linocuts do look amazing--much nicer looking than regular card decks!

I have an unhealthy obsession with playing cards, but I've never thought about making my own. This is such an awesome idea, and they look fantastic and well made.

You could also use the linocuts to stencil onto t-shirts and bags too, or maybe that's just the obsession talking... Grin
