Anyone else out there sad that Magie's is going out of business so soon after Michael's came to town?  I love that place.  They are always so friendly and know exactly what you need.  I hate it when big box retailers drive the local guys out of business. Angry Cry

During the brief time that I worked at Lewiscraft, I saw a lot of people coming in because they said Maggie's didn't have what they needed. Alas, though, I never got the chance to go and check it out for myself. Shame, really. Michael's is a nice place, but I love the personal touch of smaller stores, and since I'll never shop at Lewiscraft again, that sorta rules out the last place I could have gone.

Lewiscraft never has anything I need.  I do jewelry.  Magigies is mostly scrapbooking and jewelry and some art supplies.  They do have needlecraft stuff as well.  It's still there for now, and it's 50% off.

When is Maggie's closing?  I'm in Moncotn, but would definately take a trip down to take a peek at what's there.

Our Maggies went out of business a few years ago, and Atlantic Fabrics closed just after Michaels opened here too.  It's a shame when home-grown businesses have to go under like you said, because of US big box companies.  I mean, sure, Michaels has lots of variety,  but I find they're REALLY expensive.  Ever take a look at the differences in prices (US and CAD) on their items?  I was horrified in the sticker isle.  A pack of stickers that costs $1.00 in the US is marked up to $3.99 here; just crazy things like that.  I'm not sure where they get their exchange rate, but it's definately not the $1.16 and under it should be.  It makes me mad that we're getting ripped off so badly, simply because we're Canadian.

I try to support Lewiscraft as much as I can, but like you giggleycraft, they don't have what I need a lot of the time.  I'm pretty good at finding the things I need elsewhere in town though. Smiley

I'll have to see if I can find the time to head out there on one of my days off this week. Maybe pick up a couple of things. I want to get a bit more into jewellery-making, too, and again, I do love supporting the little guys. Even if the little guys are going out of business.

I asked last time I was in, and even they aren't sure how long they'll be around.  It may be till the end of January, it may be earlier.

That's a shame. I really liked going to Maggies. They used to buy some of my soaps and would know my little girl by name when I went in to stock up on beads and cross-stitching things. Such a shame...
