Swap name: Polymer Clay Cane Swap!!
Craftster member who is organizing this swap: flyleaf_lvr
Sign-up date range: March 8 - March 20
Date to send item by: April 10

Limited to a certain number of people? (optional): Nope

Non-U.S. participants allowed? Yes.

All ages allowed? Or 18+? All ages. I'm 11. I'm not going to exclude myself.

Organizer is aware of current list of "suspended traders"
list and will not allow those members to participate: YES

Organizer meets the 4 conditions for swapping and will make sure that every participant meets these conditions: YES

Details of swap:
In this swap, you make your partner 2-5 polymer clay canes based on their favorite colors/designs. I say 2-5 because that depends on the size of your canes. Some canes are huge, some are tiny, some take tons of work, some take almost none, etc. You can talk to your partner about how many or how much clay/work and come up with a good idea on how much to make. If you are good at polymer clay, PLEASE don't make a very long cane of a very simple design, put work into this!! That's why there are 21 days you can make your items in. If you are new at polymer clay, make lots of canes! Again, there are 21 days, so make use of the time!

Then, in the gallery, you can post pictures of your canes, and [here's the fun part] pictures of stuff you made from the canes! That way your partner can see how lovely their canes turned out when they're made into seomething.  Grin

If you want to participate, information to send to organizer:

QUESTIONNAIRE TO ANSWER:
Name of swap: Polymer Clay Cane Swap
Craftster username:
Email address:
Your real name:
Mailing address:
Would you be willing to ship to an address outside of the US?
What are your favorite colors?
What type of design would you like to receive on your cane?
How good are you at polymer clay?
What is the hardest cane you can make?
If you are good at clay, would you mind receiving from a clay newbie? It would be good for them to see the work of a clay master! If not, that's fine:

IF YOU WANT TO PARTICIPATE, REMEMBER TO SEND YOUR INFO TO ORGANIZER VIA PRIVATE MESSAGE AND NOT TO REPLY WITH IT HERE.

Also remember to read the Swap Info Guide to find out how to ship your item and other details about participating in a swap.

I have the feeling I may have posted this before  Roll Eyes . sorry if so!

But here are some pages on making polymer clay canes, if anyone needs inspiration, lessons, examples, etc:

http://www.glassattic.com/polymer/Canes--general.htm (basic info on cane making)
http://www.glassattic.com/polymer/canes--reducing.htm (making canes smaller)

http://www.glassattic.com/polymer/canes--instructions.htm (specific cane patterns)
http://www.glassattic.com/polymer/faces_caned.htm (mostly for advanced caners)

And these pages can help with mixing colors and making "blends" for canes if anyone's interested in those:
http://www.glassattic.com/polymer/color.htm (mixing, recipes, theory)
http://www.glassattic.com/polymer/blends.htm (gradations)

Have fun!

flyleaf_lvr, you should have shown how slices of that cane will change!! once they're thinly sliced and rolled onto background clay (and of course baked, then sanded/buffed or coated with clear finish).

Most people probably don't realize that those whitish areas will become transparent, and that then the image of the blue & gray flower will look like it's "floating" over the surface of the background clay! (at least it looks like you used translucent clay, right???)

(if anyone wants to see what I'm talking about by this, check out this page:
http://www.glassattic.com/polymer/canes--instructions.htm
...click on Translucent Effects in the list at the top of the page, then click on the various links under that subcategory to see photos...)

wow flyleaf_lvr I love that cane - it looks beautiful!
I'm really gonna have to try that some day. I just recently started working with real clay (graduating from playdoh as a kid lol) and it's going to take awhile to learn

Yeah that is translucent. You should ask teapotdnky if she has any pictures of something like that. I also love the way it looks and thought she would too.  Cheesy

Wow flyleaf! did you say you were 11? That's amazing. Could you post a tutorial of what you did? I would love to make something like that.
                                             thanks!
