What's a retro-lovin' girl to do when she wants a poodle skirt, but can't find one, due to the fact that they aren't "made" anymore?

1. Go to rummage sale at church. Nice church lady says, "$3 for as much as you can cram in a bag!" The bag contains this 1950s wool skirt.

2. Next, find actual poodle applique at fabric store. Gleefully bring it home and iron on to skirt. Embroider a "leash" leading from poodle upwards the skirt.

And voila! You have a poodle skirt for about $2! (and yes, I will wear it to work, not just sock-hop conventions)

Nice job!

My in-laws belong to a Classic Car Club and my 11yo daughter goes to conventions with them in the summer, so I've made some poodle skirts!  They're pretty easy to make, even with the tulle or crinoline to add in.  But I never thought of doing it that way, silly me.

Way to do thrifting! I love the poodle, too. He's got character. Wonder if I need a poodle skirt?? Smiley

Awesome! My teen daughter would be so jealous. She's been wanting a poodle skirt forever.

Thanks! Just keep in mind, there is hope!

And church sales are the best. They're so desparate to get rid of things by the end of the day, that they will bargain freely with you!
