I can't wait to make this! I simply *must* have one. Smiley Actually, it's what has kept me chuggin' along through the frustrations of trying to teach myself crochet since I got the book. Teaching myself to knit was sooooooooo much easier. *sigh*
Must keep my eye on the hat... Just think about the hat... hehe

I made it! Yay. I took a very boring trip to Florida with my mother this week and had nothing to do (in Florida, can you believe it?! and it was 80 the whole time I was there [I live in MI where the weather has been 18 and below, so this was a treat]) so I made this. I found it very very easy, but I'm fairly experienced. I really recommend making it. I haven't finished yet, I just have to lay my floral wire and do the row of reverse hdc. Mines white. Pictures when I'm finished!

I can't wait to see photos of your finished hat.

I would love to make this with hemp, but I am not sure it would work since hemp is so thin.  Does anyone have any ideas on whether i may be able to pull hemp off.  I am pretty new to crocheting so i plan on working on a couple other patterns first to get my feet wet but this is so cool.

Maybe instead of hemp you could do it with jute. You'd have to line it a little witha ribbon around the inside band so it's not so scratchy, but it would work and you wouldn't have to work with 4 strands.
