I made this in about 2-2 1/2 hours for my friend amanda (you may know her as seika). It's her birthday today Cheesy. I totally made up the pattern, and it seemed to work pretty well, i could make a little tut if anybody wants one. he (or perhaps she) is completely handsewn as well. the colours are also much brighter and happier in person. anyways, enough talking...

chillin on the stair rail...

hanging out with my dog, aaron...

lookin' whaley on the tiles...

thanks for looking! comments would be awesome. happy birthday, mandabear!  Grin

EDIT: I made a sorta-half tutorial! It should be fairly clear, I'm sure you guys can figure it out...

1: draw out your whale shape and a tail shape too. when you cut it out, remember to leave about a centimetre for seam allowance.

2: get a piece of string or yarn and measure around the whale shape (not including seam allowance)

3: now get some paper long enough for the string (mine was two pages long) and tape them together.

4: draw out sort of a canoe shape (wide in the middle and tapered at both ends). you can also just draw 1/4 of it and fold the paper twice and cut on that line, making it symmetrical (if you know what i mean).

5: cut that out (remembering seam allowance). now you have all the pattern pieces.

6: pin and cut them out. you need: 2 whale pieces, 2 tail pieces, and 1 of them long pieces. This is also the time to add any eyes or embellishments.

(Sorry! this might be where it gets a little confusing! Hope it's enough!)
7: Sew the long piece around the perimeter of one of the whale shapes. Start sewing at the pointy tail end. If you find that your long piece is a little bit too long when you get back to the pointy tail end, just trim it.

8: Now sew each tail piece to each end of the long piece (which are now right next to each other. Then sew them to each other (inside out, of course). It's also helpful to stuff the tail now, it will be hard to get to once the rest of the whale is sewn together.

9: This is pretty much the same step as 7. Add the second whale shaped piece and again, sew the long piece around the perimeter. However, you'll have to leave about a 2 inch hole for stuffing.

10: Stuff it up, whipstitch the opening closed and introduce yourself Tongue

*If there are any questions, I'm happy to help*

Enjoy Smiley
