i'm so excited, after weeks of looking at all the brilliant ideas and trying some out, i think i've come up with one of my own   Grin

i cut up one of those foam polystyrene trays you get tomatoes in from the supermarket and sprinkled some different sorts of embossing powder on it and put it in the oven for a few minutes.
the pieces shrank and the embossing powder embossed and they looked WKD !!

Yes, they look really cool, but please be careful...if the polystyrene burns it can release toxic fumes.

thank you all very much Cheesy
so how 'toxic' is 'toxic'?  what happens?  (I did wonder about fumes having avidly read the CD cooking thread)
the polystyrene i used started off green and goes almost black, but it doesn't smoke or anything, just shrinks, it probably only takes about 60 seconds at 190 degrees C - when you say 'burn', do you mean actually with flames/smoke?  (doesn't do that!!)

Yes, burn as in flames/smoke...it's good that it doesn't do that, but accidents do happen...I don't want to read in the paper about someone dying a death by poisonous pretty things  Wink...so, to be entirely redundant, Be Careful

For lots of scary info on such things, type the words burning polystyrene into Google...most of the sites are written for people who want to burn their trash in barrels or campfires...here's a quick overview:  Burning polystyrene releases Styrene gas that your body will take in through your skin and lungs.  It can damage your eyes, the inside of your nose, your sinus cavities, your lungs, etc., and long-term it can damage your central nervous system, causing stuff like headaches, weakness, and depression.

Glad you posted that warning - as polystyrene is very toxic! Also are there any chemicals in embossing powders as the chemicals mixing could also be very nasty.  Undecided
