hello hello!  finally finally finally i am able to operate a sewing machine, and turn this skirt i've had for years (and never worn-- waist was waaaayyy too small even when i bought it) and a dress i scammed from the thrift store for $3 last week... into something i can wear!

this is the dress i bought at the thrift store, before:

it's just a plain, cotton strapless dress with princessy bodice and gathered fabric zip-up for the back.

this is the dress pinned together as i was working on it.. excuse my boyfriend's beloved converses and my messy room :0)

and me wearing the dress, in front of a dumpster, naturally.

better view of how the dress looks

here's a detail of my favorite part!  the inspiration for the dress. this was the waistband of the skirt, i hung it around my neck the other day and then kind of got the a-ha! i needed to start something.  helps the dress stay up too :0)

i wore it to work the other day and got a lot of reactions (i work in construction!)  a building department employee saw me and he said, "you remind me of something today... in that dress... what is it... little red riding hood, maybe?  something from a storybook..."

what do ya think?  all critisms welcome, this is the first thing i've done.  the sash i made covers some truly grotesque stitching!

It is totally gorgeous!

I loved the original dress too- you guys have such AMAZING thrift stores int he states. They are all shopped out by "vintage" hawkers here in Sydney.

Red used to be my favorite color. If I had that dress it would definitely be the fave again. Nicely done Smiley
