After getting all excited about a fudge recipe I found online, then I discovered the recipe says "1 cube of margarine or butter".

How much is that?

Thanks in advance.

Many, many thanks, krazigal!!
I didn't think "a cube" of butter was a legitimate unit of measurement, which is why I came here (for sympathy?) instead of looking for it.

Now I'll find what an ounce of butter is in tablespoons - which I am sure is on a conversion chart somewhere and then I can make up the recipe BEFORE the due date on the buttermilk. Quite a novel concept in this house!

Your link told me the whole story, krazigal! Without scrolling all the way down.

Talking about butter, under "Weight": it says:   "... a cube which is equivalent to two tablespoons.  It should measure about one and one fourth inches each way."

Woooey! Tomorrow I'll get at it.

Thank you once again.

when we buy boxes of margarine or butter, they come in cubes - nowhere NEAR the size of a stick, i believe they're about half a cup each
maybe it's a canadian thing?

i've never heard of that either, though i've seen in some old books "butter the size of an egg" or "a knob of butter"

so.  a cube = 1 oz, which = 1/4 stick = 2 tablespoons = 1/8 cup

mmmmm, fudge.
