Warning: The following project isn't exactly advanced crafting... but I made it and gosh darnit, I'm proud!

Top painted with glossy black paint (stolen from my crafty roommate when she was working....) and finished off with a mag clipping pasted on top.
Inside colored with sharpie marker and then painted over with a coat of black fingernail polish... (Did I mention how lightheaded I am right now? or that my roommate came home so I had to resort to plan B for painting?)

Now I finally have a coooool place to store my safety pins and guitar picks! Woohoo!

If you were going to add anything else, I would add some figures to the top of the box.  Look in the clearance isles of craft stores/sections.  I found some really cool 50s scrapbooking chicks for $1.50 at Wal-Mart that would look GREAT on the lid!

edit: I just realized that post didn't make much sense...

this is kind of off topic, but it involves boxes so whatev.
i just started a new job and in the ladies room there is a box that someone had glued the phrase "look inside only if you must." of course i peeked, but there was nothing inside. perhaps there was once, or maybe thats the point. i thought it would be an interesting concept to play with though for other projects; see who gives into the temptation of peeking solely because the box says something provocative like that.
