Those are so cutey!!!  I tried to learn how to crochet but I couldn't figure out what to do after you make the foundation chain!  I'm actually more of a knitter.  I really like the ribbon that you put in the belt.  It makes it look expensive!  Great work.

For those of us who are more comfortable with "word" instructions, here it is:

Row 1: Make a knot. Ch 17. (This defines the width of the belt.) Turn.
Row 2: 1 dc in 4th st from hook. 1 dc in each st through rest of the row. Turn.
Row 3: Ch 4. Skip 2 st. 1 dc in each st twice. Ch 4. Skip 4 st. 1 dc in each st twice. Ch 2. Skip 2 st. 1 dc in last st. Turn.
Rows 4-n: Repeat #3 till desired length.
Row n+1: Ch 3. 1 dc in 4th st from hook. 1 dc in each st through rest of the row.

For petal trimming:
Along the length of the belt: (3 sc, dc, tc, dc) all around.

Final finish:
Weave ribbon in and out through the gaps in the belt.

Note: I've made a little modification because the pictorial instructions don't seem quite right. Please let me know if there are any mistakes.

surfbabe I'd add one correction to the trim...I agree the petal is as you said but there's also 4 sc after it before the next stitch....so it would go sc,dc,trc,dc,sc then 3 sc or 3 slipstitches before next petal (or shell).

One thought to everybody intimidated by crocheting: all crochet is, basically, is pulling wool through a hole--over and over.  Hook the wool pull it through, hook the wool pull it through.  Yes, there's variations on that theme, how many loops you pull the wool through but the idea is the same, pull the wool through the hole.  I recommend trying some of the "taught myself to crochet books" with pictures in them, that's how I learnt!  There's some online too.

I agree these photo directions help alot.  I can read regular directions but once I've done a few of the stitches I get the "photo" of it in my brain(ie. what it looks like) and go from that instead.  Photos really help us on tutorials.  In fact I will often find it easier to look at the photo and go "oh that's how they did it" rather than read the instructions--on simple projects that is! And sometimes I have looked at instructions and gone "what the bleep?!?"  Some can be verrrry intimidating.

I'm still sucky at crocheting but I made one as a bracelet but without the scalloped edges.
As soon as I get some ribbon, I'll post a picture here.
Thanks for the tutorial! The pictures were very good and it kept me from giving up on crochet.
