maybe this the worng thread- but it's sort of recycling...how do i gorw a plant from an avocaod pit? i have tow in some baby food jars with toothpicks sticking out of them-based on what i've read that should do it- but nothing is happening and there's white fuzzy mold on one of them. suggestions? hints? help?

Is the correct side in the water?  The bigger end (that's the bottom) should be in about 1/2 inch of water.. no more.  If it starts to rot, toss it and start fresh.

I grew one of these once (or attempted, anyway, as I promptly forgot about it) and found that just planting the sucker in a pot of soil worked much better.  Just soak the pit overnight in water, plop it in some soil (same way, bottom side down) and let it go.

Just keep in mind, the plants get huge (or at least they're supposed to... again, mine just died from lack of attention), and they like tropical environments so mist it frequently.

ETA: I forgot to mention that the plant will come out of the top, roots in the water.  Once you have roots for about a week, then you can plant it in soil.
