Beetastic, your blog is so great- I have just spent over an hour browsing around it, instead of getting on with all the crafts on my list of things to do!

So, I tried to start my mother-in-laws Xmas gift last night and stumped myself. I planned to embroidery on a pillowcase I recently sewed together and thought I would be clever and embroider her favorite topic - Quantum Physics!

Hmm...quantum physics, well I thought I could just go online and look for some images. My searching has turned up a natta. When I did find something it was extremely detailed and I am not confident enough in myself to pull it off. So now I am stumped; the woman has no other hobbies and I was really looking forward to doing a piece with this topic. She has such a hard time finding anything to do with quantum physics when it comes to her yearly ornament purchase (she gets so bummed).

So I guess this might be a plea for help or just a rant!  Grin

Physics isn't my thing - I'm more of an anatomy nerd - but perhaps you should do a google image search for a concept? Like the Big Crunch or Point of Singularity? Also, check out university lectures. Lots of them are done in Powerpoint and have images... I know MIT has an open lecture series where you can read all of their syllabi and some have lectures or articles attached...

hope this helps!

Yeah Quantum Physics is a bit too big to find as a general concept, you have to specialize. And since we can't really take pictures on that level it's a bit difficult...
You could always do Schrdinger's Cat Grin Just a cat in a box sort of thing. The weird example that illustrates that we can not make any assumptions at that level, we always have to calculate things as being in several states at the same time, because they are so independent of the surrounding world.

If she's a believer in string theory, you can try something about that, or just embroider some algorithms.
I can't remember if you actually do rotary matrix transformations for quantum physics, but most physics do various forms of matrix transformations... friend of mine embroidered this, which I find hilarious

I can't remember if bubble chambers apply for quantum physics, but if you find that they do, they make really neat patterns, especially if embroidered in multicolored thread Cheesy

These were funny too, but I don't know how difficult it would be to translate to embroidery..

Sewsew-a-Gogo & Craftrica - I am glad you both like it.  I have enjoyed so many patterns from other people I felt the need to give back.

A friend of mine saw my one color kanji (lord I hope that's how you spell it) and asked if I could do one for Serenity for him, from the movie. So after much hunting I found a goodish picture and made it into a pattern. Let me know if you'd like it. Smiley

Oh my, the needlecrafter site is amazing! I bought all these vintage kids books from the fifties with covers that were torn, but the inside pages were still stunning... and they all match those little animals on the 2/3 pages on her site! Perhaps I'll decoupage a chair with the pages, and make a matching pillow with some emb. on it. Hmmm. its a thought Smiley
