Hello Craftsters-

Well I get to do my first field experience in my Intro to Ed. Class. I am very excited. So, it is me and a partner, we will be working with 10-ish 2nd graders and our theme for 6 weeks is "Famous Cities." The bummer is we only get with them 1hr a week. We're thinking doing the following cities: New York, Rome, Paris, London and maybe one or two more. Well here is where I need your help. We want to do a lot of hands on stuff. Here's what we're thinking so far:
-Make your own money
-Make a countries flag
-Making crowns
-Learning common words in other languages
-Word Searches
-Learning Roman Numerals

...and thats about all we have. We're not sure exactly what we're going to do yet but I'd eat any more ideas if you have them. Remember, they are only 2nd grade. I appreciate your help. Thanks!!!

I teach high school language arts, and it might be a little advanced, but as any good educator knows, it's all about adaptibility.  My 9th graders are currently working on a 'travel brochure' as a way to get them to practice writing, research, etc.  You could have the kids make something like this, using pictures or symbols connected to that city.  I don't know, just a thought.

As far as cities go, you could also try moving away from American and European cities and include some place like Moscow or Tokyo.

There's too much sky and not enough blue.

how about writing postcards home as if they were visiting that city?  they could decorate the backside with a picture of a famous monument or something from that city.

We're so trendy we can't stand ourselves.

you + are = you're ...not your!!!
