(You can see the large version here: http://static.flickr.com/40/102900298_162b500a16_b.jpg)

I have been working on this blanket for a loooong time. In between other projects, in long and short spurts, etc. It is almost done, now! Just one more square, then I need to finish weaving in a *bunch* of loose ends, sew them together, and then put on a border or two. Phew!

Because I am crazy, I did a border of black single crochet around each square, it just made me feel better to do that, haha. That is one of the reasons it is taking me so long! (I think I started early Summer, 2005)

Just wanted to share! Smiley I posted it in here, since it's not technically finished...

Oh that is GORGEOUS Smiley I love your colour choices, it looks so warm and snuggly, It actually goes really well with that bedspread too don't know if that was intentional! lol.
One more square! Lovely, and I think the black borders look great even though it did make more work for you Wink

It reminds me of nostaglia and my grandparents houses and stuff (don't take that the wrong way, it's a good thing!) Great job hun Cheesy

I love it! Especially the square that is on the last row, 3rd in from the left. Beautiful.

Beautiful!  I love the black borders.  They give it a classic, old-fashioned granny look.  Cheers to you for dealing with all those ends and color changes.

love it love it love it. The colors are very pretty and yes that black border really enhances the colors and make them stand out more.

Thank you everyone! I have enjoyed working on this blanket, but it will be sooo good to finish it! I'm glad some of you mentioned the black border being worth it - I was beginning to wonder, haha.

MissMeshell - I didn't intend for it to match, I think that those are just colors I love and tend to lean towards Smiley I only bought a few new colors, like a dark green and the orange, the rest were all scrap yarns I had left over!

umbrellamaker - I have an old crochet/knit book from the 70's and that is where I learned it, but I'm sure there has to be something online, it is a very basic pattern.... http://www.jpfun.com/patterns/01granny/grannysquare.shtml there's one! Smiley

I was so glad when I learned how to make the basic granny square and now I am trying my luck at other designs so far no good lol but I'll keep trying.

Normally I don't care for granny squares, but yours are beautiful!  I love the black border.
