Window Bench

I bought an old IKEA coffee table in the "AS IS" section, for $60. It served us well for years and I didn't want to throw it out so I thought I'd turn it into a bench. If you ware going to do this make sure it is a well made table so it doesn't crack when you sit on it! This table had stable legs and braces so it was a-ok.

I bought some 3" foam at Joann's for the base, they cut it to size for you, but I found you can just use a serated knife and do it yourself, if you're so inclined.

I used some heavier hawaiian barkcloth, and made slipcovers. When people come over they all sit on this bench and avoid the couch! It must be the eyecatching fabric...

this is a good idea-- it is always easier to find coffee tables at garage sales than nice things to sit on.

I head straight for the "as is" section each time I visit Ikea.  Blinds for three dollars and a couch cover that fit my fouton and made it soft and lovely for five bucks.  I stuffed the cushion covers with batting and they are extra comfy.

ive been meaning to make a window seat for my room, and my original idea was to use an antique trunk. they're hard to find in good condition and flat on top, so i was trying to think of other ideas. this is a cool idea!
