is it just me, or is the post not showing up? sorry, i'm new at this! here we go again:

the inspiration for my wedding dress was a dress on the vintage clothing website, thefrock.com (http://www.thefrock.com/talmadge_page1_main.html - scroll down to see the dress - it's blue ombre, about half-way down the page on the left)

i drafted a pattern on newsprint, and made a mock-up in muslin, which i ended up using as both the pattern and the interlining.

here i am sewing in the kitchen. the fabric i chose was white silk charmeuse - very slippery, tricky to work with, and any errant pinholes or marks will show. i pressed the fabric with a touch of easy-on starch before working on it, to make it hold still.

the ironing never stops!

here's a shot of the flange-thingy - the silk was a pain to work with, but beautifully drapey:

i like this shot of the back:

and finally, married! the dress worked!

...I don't think I see a sewing machine in any of those pictures.  Did you do the whole thing by hand?

wow, thank you all for your kind words! i'm afraid i'll never be able to post a completed project again, because i'm planning on never making anything this difficult again!!

questions:

Quote
How much did the dress cost over all?

total cost was around $200 for all fabric, lining, interlining, thread, and covered-button kit.

Quote
I don't think I see a sewing machine in any of those pictures.  Did you do the whole thing by hand?

no, that would have killed me! i definitely used a machine, my mum's ancient elna. i did the hems by hand, and, uh, some were just basted because i was running out of time! no one seemed to notice though...

what an amazing house you have!

not mine unfortunately - pics taken on the day of were at a friend's house a block away from the hall where we had the wedding.

cheers
