clearance sale on fabric @ joanne's = new bag for katie.

i used my own pattern.. pretty much just a box and a flap, i didn't add any pockets. i used sew-on interfacing and sewed it onto the lining instead of the shell. for the strap, i got black webbing for $.89 and used two overall buckles to attach it so i could adjust it and detach it.

you love my lion king sheets, right?

detail of the buckles.

i want to attach two buttons to it to hold the flap down, and i'm going to figure out a way to secure the end of the strap so it's not flapping around.

for the little extra strap, maybe you could get a cute 1" button or two and secure the end, it'll be decorative with a purpose! very cute bag by the way. I like the overall buckles.  Grin

I love the fabric, and I want that bag! It would be perfect for school! Great job, and good idea with the overall buckles, they look good on the bag!

Ooh it's beautiful! I really want a big tweed-y bag for school, mind if I use yours for inspiration?

use as inspiration? go right ahead, lol.

i've been using a button to hold up the extra length of strap... i tried using a military belt buckle before, but the webbing isn't thick enough to secure it. Sad

right now my big concern is how the overall buttons keep ripping through the fabric.. i've had to replace them both like 5 times and have idk how many patches on the holes to try to strengthen it... any suggestions?

I don't know how, but maybe you could put a rivet in or sew a thicker layer around where the button is?
