actually, i held 2 strands together.  one was a pink lion brand wool blend (can't remember the name, doh!) and the other was a novelty ladder yarn in the clearance bin (again, can't remember the name, double doh!).

No, that's ok! Thanks for letting me know how you did it. I can tell from the others that you're really good at putting different yarns together, and I must try that more often. So it's good to know that you can get an effect like that by putting two together - i'm a total knitting noob*!

no, i just sort of winged it.  the brim area is 2x2 ribbing and the rest is just stockinette with even decreases to the tip.
