I'm doing a Spanish project, and my teacher is looking for a way to do a Christmas tree, but in the form of a cactus.... I was thinking about doing it in floral foam... but I really would like another quick, easy way to put one together... I need ideas, and I need them fast!  Please help!

In my humble opinion, you can't go wrong with paper mache!

You could do the balloon method with some of those long skinny balloons. Tape them together in the shape of a cactus, paper mache, then pop the balloons. Or you could make the shape of the cactus out of crumpled newspaper and tape then paper mache over that.

My favorite paper mache glue is plain old Elmers White School glue and water. (About 1 part glue to 2 or 3 parts water.) I use newspaper strips to build up the form until it's the way I like it, then I cover that with strips of white paper (just so I have less painting to do to... covering newsprint with paint is not fun.)

You could add spikes with nails or toothpicks too if you wanted.

Creativity is allowing yourself to make mistakes. Art is knowing which ones to keep.
