I had a death in the family at the time ( my beloved Grandpa ) and I was newlywed ( you know where newlyweds keep their brains hehe ) between the two events I just plum forgot about this. My husband is currently deployed so I have time now to do this. My questions is, do you feel more comfortable using a commercial pattern, or do you wanna use the self drafted pattern I made the original bag with?  I no longer have the bag ( it was stolen by a hyperventilating 16 yo ), but I do believe I still have the patterns on brown paper. Im comfortable with either method.
Well a few of you were interested in how I made, this bag..http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=81089.0.. Wanna sewalong with me? I need at least 5 of you to make it worthwhile.
Supplies will be 1 1/2 yards of the outside fabric ( decorator weights work best, or you can use regular quilters type cottons if you use a firm interfacing )
I spent about 12.00 to make it.
1 1/2 yards lining
1 1/2 yards thin batting
1 1/2 yards fusible interfacing, I like pellon decor bond 809
1 - 17 inch zipper
1 - 28 inch zipper ( I like the zipper by the foot stuff, get 2 pulls )
3 yards nylon strap 1 to 1 1/12 wide in a matching or contrast color..

I love your fabric, AND your bag!  I really like the outside zipper pocket.

I just got a sewing machine, and broke it in making a similar bag.  Thought I'd post it for inspiration.  Smiley  Mine was made using a pattern (KwikSew 3171) in a brown paisely corduroy.  (Ignore the blurry cell phone picture, my camera wasn't handy that night!)

I love these bags, you can fit so much in them!

ETA:  I like the details of yours a whole lot more than the pattern I have (like the fact that it stands up...).  I'd be up for joining your sewalong, since I want to make a few of these for friends.  Smiley  Plus, now that I've reassured myself that I remember how to sew, I'll take any chance to increase my fabric stash!  Wink

This looks great! I do a lot of 2 and 3 day trips and this would hold all my stuff, the dog's stuff and my knitting stuff! I have a decent fabric stash, so I'll have to look at what's needed and go shopping!
